In his address, Mr. Rockson K. Dogbegah, President of the Institute, entreated the inductees to exhibit true ethical leadership. He reminded members who have upgraded to Fellow status about the high levels of commitment needed to advance the course of the Institute explaining that induction ceremonies of the Institute are usually designed to be public events. At such gatherings he explained, the achievements of deserving individuals are show cased to the world as belonging to one of the most prestigious professional institutes that promotes the professional development of Directors and champions the culture of good corporate governance.  “About two weeks ago, the Institute was registered under the Professional Bodies Registration Act, 1973 which gives us the full status to operate as a Professional Institute. This is after twenty (20) years of existence and operating under the Company’s Code. This law gives us enormous powers and responsibilities for the regulation of Directors in Ghana. This will be operationalized soon.’ He intimated.

He further explained that some activities have begun in earnest to explore the possibility of acquiring the “Professional Directors Act” to further ensure the Institute has the full benefit of regulating the practice appropriately and in the position to offer charter status to her members. “There is a lot of work ahead and we are hoping we can count on most of you to leverage on your strengths to develop the appropriate structures, systems, networks and resources to achieve this goal.”

He reiterated that the mission of the Institute of Directors-Ghana is to promote good corporate governance for the benefit of all stakeholders. This he said can be achieved through the development of a national institutional capacity; enforcement of a code of ethics, and providing education and professional development.

Mr. Dogbegah finally encouraged the newly inducted Members and Fellows to actively participate in the affairs of the Institute to champion its ideals as good Ambassadors always practicing ethical and effective leadership in all their endeavours.
